School chef saves the day

The catering team at Cambourne Village College were able to put on a fabulous Christmas dinner for students despite disaster striking in the kitchen on the day.

The school’s oven broke just hours before students were due to sit down for the festive lunch. However the quick thinking and calm attitude of Chef Manager, Robert Lipman meant an alternative plan was soon in action.

Robert and his team carried a lot of potatoes from the kitchen to the food technology classroom to use those ovens instead. Vegetables were spread across 9 of the 14 ovens in the classroom, which is usually used by the students. It really was all systems go but a delicious Christmas lunch was still served on time, despite the set-back.

After the event, Robert said “The ovens have never failed before and of all the days for it to be happen it’s just typical it was the day of our Christmas dinner. All the pupils got to enjoy their college Christmas lunch which went down a treat. I’d like to thank my team for working so hard in difficult circumstances so that the college and students didn’t miss out. They’ve most definitely earned their festive break.”
