Smarties stand out at Hamstel Infants

Keith Prince at Hamstel Infants has introduced a fantastic idea which he first saw when visiting Angela Clark at Woodlands Trust Schools in Kent.

Pupils on cleaning duty now get to wear orange caps when helping in the dining hall and are given the nickname “Smarties”. The role of Smarties is to serve their peers at the salad bar and bring the used crockery to the kitchen door for cleaning.

Unit manager, Keith said “Rather than it feel like a chore, pupils enjoy being a Smartie as it’s seen as fun and rewarding. It’s so simple I would definitely recommend it to other Pabulum schools. Just always be aware of health and safety so pupils aren’t entering the kitchen to hand over crockery.”
