Environmental Eating

We throw away 6.7million tones of food each year in the U.K. If we all stopped throwing away food that we could eat it would have the same carbon impact as taking 1 in 5 cars off the UK roads. Startling facts! But something that most of us do. For hints and tips on how to stop wasting food go to www.lovefoodhatewaste.com simple ideas like only buying what you need and planning your weekly menus can not only reduce waste but save you money.

If we take time to source our food from local suppliers thus cutting food miles and supporting the local economy it seems ridiculous to throw any of it away. Foods can be used in a variety of ways, apples that are bruised may not be what you want in your lunchbox but cooked down with cinnamon and sugar they make great crumbles. Tomatoes that are squishy make no difference when pureed into a simple fresh tomato sauce.
Cook up a chilli and what’s not eaten can be frozen then used to fill tortillas or even topped with mash for a chilli cottage pie. The possibilities are endless just use your imagination
