Here at Pabulum, we’re a big fan of ‘Honestly Good Food’ and are pleased to be supporting the Fairtrade Fortnight over the next couple of weeks.
2010 marks the 16th Fairtrade Fortnight, and the goal is to make it the biggest and best yet. This year’s event is all about ‘The Big Swap’, which aims to get everyone across the nation involved, swapping their usual purchases for the Fairtrade-version – whether it’s a coffee, a cotton t-shirt or a chocolate bar.
We’re doing our bit by displaying ‘The Big Swap’ posters and window stickers at our business and industry sites, alongside our range of Fairtrade certified hot drinks which are available all year round. Because they carry the FAIRTRADE Mark, customers can enjoy them in the knowledge that they are helping to give disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries a better deal.
The FAIRTRADE Mark shows that:
- A minimum price has been paid to Fairtrade producers
- The Fairtrade Premium, an extra amount to invest in developing communities and businesses, has also been paid
- Producers always have a democratic say in decision-making, and that’s all producers, women included
- Farm workers also get rights under Fairtrade like decent wages and being allowed o join unions
- The ‘Dirty Dozen’, of chemicals are forbidden on certified Fairtrade farms protecting humans and the environment*
