Pabulum Flog Their Executive Chef - Last night actually! We were lucky enough to join the fantastic people from the Red Balloon Learner Centres (for the recovery of bullied children) at the RAC Club in Pall Mall for their first ever annual charity ball. It was attended by over 100 people in the beautiful RAC Committee Room where good food and good company were accompanied by thought provoking speeches and a charity auction. Sarah Brown (Gordon’s wife) gave an impassioned talk about the plight of many of this country’s bullied children and the effect it has on the parents too. It was sobering stuff and a real reminder as to why we had come together and more importantly of the incredible work the people at this astonishing organization carry out on a daily basis.
Sarah Brown was followed by an inspirational young lady who had been helped by Red Balloon. A victim of severe bullying at school she has managed to achieve a phenomenal recovery and now attends a College in Cambridge on the back of excellent GCSE grades and is confident enough to deliver a faultless presentation to an audience of over 100. What an achievement!
The final part of the evening was to raise money for Red Balloon. There were 18 lots to bid for with prizes ranging from a case of wine to dinner for 18 at the top of the BT Tower. Pabulum chose Red Balloon as its charity last year and we were thrilled to be able to participate too. We offered the opportunity for Huw Griffiths, our Executive Chef to produce a meal at the home of the winning bidder for them and a party of friends. He will even do the washing up. Our donation raised £550 for the charity and as the Sotherbey’s Auctioneers gavel sealed the deal for the lucky winner it was really pleasing to know what a great cause the money was going to and how privileged we are at Pabulum to be associated with such a truly worthwhile cause.
