Our suppliers

Maintaining and extending our great reputation relies on knowing exactly where our ingredients come from. With this in mind, we insist on establishing close, open and transparent relationship with all our suppliers – who must be British, and as ethical and ecological, and as committed to high standards as we are.

“Our fruit and vegetable suppliers specialise in providing fresh, locally grown produce, rich in provenance and traceability but kind to the environment”.

Firm but fair

Like Pabulum, our suppliers must have a genuine respect for the environment, and a resolute dedication to high-quality produce. All our supplying farms and producers have excellent credentials in animal husbandry, and are assessed by our Pabulum Head of Food, Health, Safety and Environment.

Bidfood

Pabulum has been working with Bidfood for six years, and they support our education mission with excellent produce and great service.

Bidfood’s regional depots ensure food miles stay at a minimum, and they supply us with staple products like British flour, free-range eggs and British Red Tractor cheddar cheese. In recent years we’ve also incorporated some of our smaller suppliers into our Bidfood agreement, which has achieved a 30% reduction in food miles on many products, and reduced our stockholding.

Bidfood understands the education sector’s unique requirements, and provides us with the products to match those requirements. For example, they supply a range of organic products for schools where we run Silver and Gold Food For Life menus.

IDC works with smaller suppliers of fruit, vegetables and dairy products across our region, and manages our pricing centrally. This helps us support local businesses that employ people in their communities, while IDC oversees pricing and distribution.

We buy a wide range of seasonal fresh produce and dairy products from IDC, and they support us further by attending quality assessments and tasting events on our behalf.
