Special Diets
We recognise that there are an increasing number of children who require a medical diet. This could be due to a variety of reasons such as a food allergy, food intolerance, diabetes, or other medical conditions.
Medical Diet Request
If your child is in a primary school and requires a medically prescribed diet, please complete the following actions:
- Complete our Medical Diet Request Form available at the link below: Medical Diet Request Form (V2).
- Email your completed Medical Diet Request form and any supporting information to specialdiets@pabulum-catering.co.uk
Your request will then be processed by a Pabulum nutritionist. We will try to action this as soon as possible. However, during exceptionally busy periods or for complex requirements, this could take up to 15 working days.
Whilst your request for a medical diet is being processed, you should provide your child with a suitable packed lunch.
Our Primary School Allergen Awareness Menu
Pupils who must avoid one or more of the 14 major allergens (except for fish) will be fed from our Allergen Awareness Menu.
The food on this menu will be made from ingredients that do not intentionally include any of the major allergens except for fish.
Ingredients used within the menu will not include:
Celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya, and sulphur dioxide (sometimes known as sulphites).
The Allergen Awareness Menu has been created to mirror the main menu as best as possible. However, please be aware that there may be unavoidable differences.
Tree Nuts and Peanuts
Our primary and secondary school menus do not use any ingredients which intentionally contain tree nuts or peanuts.
Primary School – Pupil Medical Diet Menus
If your child must exclude other ingredients outside of the major allergens (but including fish) then they will receive their own medical diet menu from a Pabulum nutritionist.
Primary Menus showing Allergens
All our primary school menus provided on this website contain information regarding the presence of the 14 allergens covered in the Food Information Regulations 2014, including eggs, milk, gluten, and soya. Please click here and then search your school to find this information.
Secondary Schools
Our secondary school breakfast, break and lunch menus do not use any ingredients which intentionally contain tree nuts or peanuts.
Our sixth form offer occasionally sells products which may contain nuts; however, these will always be labelled.
In secondary schools, information regarding the presence of the 14 allergens is available at all points of service. All our catering staff are knowledgeable about the presence of allergens in our food, and we encourage open communication between students and our catering team.
All our freshly prepared prepacked foods are labelled with a full list of ingredients with the 14 major allergens emphasised in bold on the label, enabling your child to make an informed choice on what food to select.
